Yup

Dad
A gorgeous 'ama'u fern, one of my new favorites. This is at Volcano, where the plant has more red to protect itself from direct, high-elevation sun.
Kristi and Honey. Kristi is my adventure buddy. And she's a local, so she knows where to go.
Lava tube with father.

You can take Clayton out of Chicago...
Part of the meal Kristi made for my dad and I. She was fasting at the time.

Beer tubesStirring the cow patty slurry. Dirty hippies and their poop water...
Beach sunset!
Kristi and her dog, Honey. Honey is a nervous little dog that swims herself exhausted trying to stay near mommy

Have you ever laughed at a duck at 6AM? I HAVE

We had to take down a pretty sizable banana grove.

The stalks are up to 2' thick. Machetes and tons of juice. I took a sip of the clear, voluminous stuff that spills from the stalks (out of a banana flower petal - an appendage that looks out of Starship Troopers) -- it was about the worst thing I'd ever tasted. Truly. But the fresh bananas were about the best I've ever tasted.

Ahhh what a way to start the day! I think I've seen the last 7 sunrises. Here are 2.

Yep, that's me, in the woods taking a picture of myself. This is the shelter I've slept in for the past week. I'll get a better shot in the daylight. I've got a huge pile of super comfortable needles under me. Less comfortable: the 20 spider bites I woke up with on my hand 2 days ago, and the little flies that buzz in my ear at 4am. fuckers.
In Waimea, cowboy town, the stopsigns say "Woah!" instead of "Stop." This was the rodeo festival in Honoka'a, the town I'm closest to.
Me and my Autie Katie at the Rodeo. I'm pretty sure she lassoed herself some cowboys before she left..
Ever seen Garfield and Friends? I live on the Friends' farm, I swear. When I throw chunks of banana to the ducks / hens, the fat duck will quickly waddle behind the running hen, trying to get the chunk from its mouth. I've never laughed so hard so early in the morning. Also, look at these little fuckers!:
(If you're Clayton's mom stop here!) This is me half way up the eucalyptus tree here. The vines are sweet.. tarzan shit. I'm going to make it higher once I've worked up my strength (or have a girl to impress.) You can't see, but I'm standing on a branch, not risking my hold for a picture.
A hui hou!
